Certificate of Inspection
The Certificate of Inspection (COI) for import of products from organic production into the European Community (COI) serves the main objective to enhance traceability of imported organic products and reduce potential fraud. Any certified operator that intends to export an organic product to the European Union shall need a COI to accompany each consignment.
The certificate can be initiated by the importer in the EU or the exporter and can only be issued by EGYCERT.
EGYCERT shall provide a COI to any operator subject to its controls and who is already a holder of a valid documentary evidence that covers these products. The COI, is valid only for the specific consignment it refers to. The original certificate of inspection must be presented together with the imported organic products to the relevant EU Member State's authority at the point of entry (Customs).
The COI may not be issued for certified products in conversion to organic.
The Certificate of inspection is currently issued via European Union TRACES (TRAde Control and Expert System).
EGYCERT shall provide a transaction certificate to any operator subject to its controls and who is already a holder of a valid documentary evidence that covers these products. The transaction certificate, is valid only for the specific transaction it refers to. The original certificate of transaction shall accompany the consignment. Transaction Certificates are valid for identifying any certified organic consignment that is transported to any non-EU destination.
EGYCERT shall only issue the certificate of transaction after it has carried out a documentary check on the basis of all relevant inspection documents, including in particular the production plan for the product concerned, transport documents and commercial documents and, as appropriate according to its risk assessment, it has carried out a physical check of the consignment.
For processed products, EGYCERT shall only issue the certificate of transaction after it has verified that all organic ingredients of the product by a valid documentary evidence issued by an equivalent Control Body or Control Authority.
